The Math Department at CCA seeks to help students see the characteristics of God in mathematics, the inherent beauty of the subject, and the usefulness of mathematical skills for work in understanding the physical world around us. By studying pattern, we use our God-given reasoning abilities to understand more about our Creator. His faithfulness and the dependability of the rules we discover that describe the world around us help us grow in our understanding of who God is and how He works. Through the study of mathematics, we learn more about our God, ourselves, and the world around us.
We foster an appreciation for the way in which mathematics works, simply and elegantly, and sometimes without an initial utility. We seek to motivate students to understand abstract concepts for their own inherent beauty. There is a beauty in all of mathematics and we want students to see the value that aspect of the subject has on its own merit.
Finally, we know, too, that problem-solving skills and mathematical capabilities help students pursue further education in technological fields. We seek to motivate students to excel at mathematics. We recognize that students have different abilities and interests, and we strive to help each student maximize his or her God-given abilities so Christian men and women will be mathematically prepared to help solve challenging 21st century challenges.
